PaSs It On!

After watching this documentary, I was extremely sad the next day :(

This documentary is about how there have been fully electric cars on the market (historically - some of the the very first cars were electric, but also recently, from 1996 to 1999)

In 1996, GM released the EV1, a super cute little electric car for lease to the public.

They made them super hard to get, and did not do a very good job of marketing them to the public. Still, the people who had them, LOVED them! The cars were quiet and reliable, they were very clean, required little maintenance, and the car owners simply plugged their cars in at night - they NEVER had to go to the gas station. People loved this car so much that there was a waiting list of over 4000.
Then, (here comes the sad part) in 1999, GM laid off their EV1 sales force, started re-calling all of the cars, they didnt allow anyone to renew their leases, and they started rounding up all of the EV1's for destruction. Yes, thats right, they fucking smashed them! They did not recycle the parts or improve the car, blaming that there was no consumer market demand, they began SMASHING the cars. So people started protesting. Yes, some people even got arrested for protesting the destruction of their environmentally friendly cars that they loved so much.
For me this was just insane, becuse lets say you have a child who loves a toy that you gave them, and they hug it and they love this toy, what are you going to do - are you going to take it from them and smash it?
Anyways - this documentary gives a lot of interesting facts about electric vheicles, the smog problem, and the future of the gas and auto industries, and it does this while investigating all different suspects in the case of - Who killed the electric car? The documentary leaves it up to you to draw your own conclusions.

Have you seen this documentary? What are your thoughts on it?
