Hundreds of South Dakota dead birds poisoned by USDA

USDA wildlife biologist Ricky Woods explained that a large group of starlings was causing problems in a north Nebraska cattle feedlot, eating the feed and leaving waste on both the feed and equipment. So the USDA put out DRC 1339 poison for the birds, Woods said.

WTF??

Hm..it doesn't seem true to me. So what about massive birds' death in the other countries? Is it just coincidence??

It makes me wonder why they did not use some sort of method that is much more environmentally friendly and practically just as easy. Ontario wineries prevent the eating of their grapes from certain birds by having a falconer come by twice a week. Generally they appreciate being able to use the space. There are many natural predators that prey on small birds that can be used as a deterrent.

All it takes is a little thought and a tragedy like this can be avoided.

Yes, sure,

I think birds should not be killed at all.. Maybe it's ok just to scare them away, but not to kill!

And, anyway, i think the real purpose of using poison was not to help farmers..And that is just an excuse for public.

There was a massive birds's death at many countries of our planet - and it all happpend at the same time.

So it seems to me more like biological attack (to reduce population on Earth). At first they were planning to use nuclear bombs for that, but then they found out that biological weapons are cheapper..

So that's how they start..

But hopeful, they will not be able to continue

Please note that I was not in support of killing birds. The use of a falconer is only used to scare off birds. The falcons are fed by their owners, the other littler birds are just scared away because of the presence of a preditor.

I have heard about some stories recently about groups of birds dying (mainly red-winged blackbirds), but they have been shown not to have been poisoned rather, they have suffered from severe traumatic injuries leading to internal hemoraging and death. These incidents have been recorded as happening in the united states almost every other year (16 times in the pasy 30 yearsd to be exact). with the majority of them being blamed on power surges through power lines killing the roosting birds.

another cause is that they suffer from mid-air collisions. after being spooked by loud noises such as fireworks. with the loud bangs and sheer terror running through these birds it is believed they fly into houses, walls, each other etc at night when they cannot see very well.

also note that no birds were harmed in the writing of this reply.

Oh, i didn't mean that you are in support of killing birds - that's about others, who don't care about animals much..

Wow - you know so much about birds!!

Thank you for sharing the information :))

I know you didn't think I like or support killing birds, however, they do freak me out...

I mean what kind of animal has hollow bones ans scales on their feet. They are just feathered dinosaurs.

Now there's an awesome bunch of creatures. Rulers of the planet for millions of years. To become the creepiest mo-fo's out there. Who in their right mind would want to evolve into a chikadee from a oviraptor?

I guess as beautiful as Mother Nature is, she really makes the wrong decisions once in a while.
